Montclair Blues midget teams capped off great short seasons with success at NJYHL playoffs in November.
16AA National - After a 17-0-1 regular season, 16 AA Blue went into playoffs as the first overall seed. The team started round robin play with a 5-2 win over Toms River Blackhawks, before dropping their second game to Red Bank on Day 2. The squad needed a win over Flyers Youth on Sunday to lock up a spot in the championship game, which they ultimately won 3-0. In the finals, which featured a rematch with Red Bank, the team showed up in a big way with an 11-1 win to take the title. 16 AA National will wait for the AAHA District tournament in March 2024 for a chance to play for a bid to USA Hockey Nationals.
16AA American - The boys finished the season as top dogs in the league with an impressive 15-2-1 record. An exciting round robin playoff weekend had the team go 3-0 in pool play with hard fought wins over Old Bridge Knights (5-3), Atlantic City Sharks (4-1), and Devils Youth (4-2). A successful start to the weekend set 16 AA White with a rematch with the Atlantic City Sharks in the championship game. In their 3rd match up against the Sharks for the season, the boys came out flying, racing to 6-0 win and earning the league banner!
16 A National Blue - As the second overall seed entering playoffs, the boys had matchups set against Princeton Tigers, Red Bank Generals and Montclair Blues Grey. The team went through round robin play with a 2-1 record, including a 3-1 win over Princeton, 6-3 loss to Red Bank and a 4-2 win over Montclair Grey, which earned them a spot in the finals. Although the boys fell 3-1 to Red Bank in a tough battle, second place earned them a spot in the AAHA 16 A tournament in March 2024.
